The NGD Food Program.
This is a community-focused end hunger program by the Humanitarian Department of NGD Foundation that strives to find solutions to end hunger in rural communities in Burundi by coming in assistance to those find themselves in starving situations and providing means to try to permanently end poverty and ultimately hunger.
Short Term Operations.
For short term solutions, we provide food donations to needy and elderly people from time to time as per need and humanitarian food assistance to needy people who find themselves in hunger after disastrous emergency situations that hit their communities such as floods, calamities, etc.
Long Term Operations.
For long term solutions to poverty and hunger, we have launched a project to work with women, mostly widowers and unwed mothers, so as to provide them with vocational training programs that will enable them to earn an income and become financially independent enough to provide for their family basic needs, especially nutrition basic needs.
Current Project:
The project "Empower Women Through Vocational Training in Sewing" and then Mentoring in starting and running micro-businesses in tailoring was designed for unwed mothers in particular, school-drop-off adolescent girls, and rural women in general so as to provide to these women in need with skills and abilities to contribute in building healthy and prosperous communities.
Our Mission.
We try to utilise creativity and enterprise in our efforts to break the cycle of poverty for women in rural areas. We are to create an environment of self determinism and economic independence for marginalised women by providing them with Training and Mentorship they need in order to earn equal opportunities.
Description of the Project: This project concerns 60 women from Magara at the moment (but to be expanded later-on), who want to take vocational tailoring course in order to develop an income generating activity afterwards. This project was designed for young unwed mothers in particular, school-drop-off adolescent girls, and other women in rural communities in general, to learn how to sew, earn reliable skills, boost their financial independence, and support families as they generate income through tailoring. Goal of the project: "To enhance the Employability of 60 poor and disadvantaged women, school-drop-off adolescent girls, and unwed mothers through vocational training in tailoring on annual basis." Target Beneficiaries of the Project: The number of direct beneficiaries of this project would be 60 women per year from a local area where a project is planted. However, the annual number of indirect close beneficiaries would be around 200 persons. Along with jobs to be crated through these trained beneficiaries. Tenure of the Project: From the day we raise full amount to start the project, 12 months period will be needed in order to complete each annual project, divided into two parts consisting of training and mentoring. Part One will take 6 months of training with 2 hours per day and 3 days a week in a class of 15 persons each. Part Two will take as well 6 months of mentoring for business techniques, small groups formation for startups, micro-loans searching, NGD Foundation guarantor program for micro-credit, and credit worthiness in small business coaching. | Highlights of the Project: 01- Project Title: Empowering Women Through Sewing Vocation Training and Business Mentorship. 02- Short name: Empower Women Through Sewing. 03- Funds To Start the Project: $ 9,826 USD. 04- Direct Beneficiaries: 60 Women per year. 05- Indirect Beneficiaries: 300 persons. 06- Location: Magara, Bugarama, Rumonge Province. Heads-up of Budget: 01- Building of a room for Training = $ 2,000. 02- Sewing Machines (16 units) with tools = $ 1,600. 03- Desks, Chairs, Shelves, and Training Tools = $ 900. 04- Purchase of Fabrics and Accessories = $ 1,200. 05- Annual Salaries for 2 Instructors/ Mentors = $ 2,400. 06- Annual Centre Management Expenses = $1,440. Sub-total = $ 9,540 USD. 07- Unexpected Expenses (3% of above Sub-total) = $ 286. Total = $ 9,826 USD.
